My Latest Rugs

Sometimes my Cheticamp frame sits untouched for weeks and/or months and then there are days that I get inspired and have to hook every day for hours. I had just completed 2 rugs after working on and off on them for months.

I found this pic in a quilting magazine and thought it would make a good rug.

This is the almost completed rug. (It still needs to be “framed”.) The rug is 24 × 30”. I left my slippered toes in the pic so you can see the size of it. I had completed this rug months ago but it was still on the frame till I hooked something else on the leftover 16 × 28 piece of linen.

I find the hardest part of hooking is deciding what I want to hook. I looked through books and magazines and drawings and Pintrest. I decided to just leave it for awhile and instead played around with the Procreate app on my IPad. I had just completed a waterlily piece using lots of layers and thought it might just also make an interesting rug.

This is the design I did using the Procreate app on my IPad. It’s made up of multiple layers of photos and also different marks using some of the brushes available.

Drawing out the design and trying out some colours of yarns.

Finished hooking the waterlilies using lots of different greens and reds.

I had taken this photo of goldfish in Vietnam…

…and drew out something that sort of looked like one of them. But one lonely goldfish just wasn’t enough so I drew in some more.

The final rug with 5 goldfish. I decided on a background hooked with a beautiful deep purple velvet material. I also added some sparkly threads here and there but they don’t show up in the photo. Too bad as it really makes the fish and lilypads glisten.

My Cheticamp and Gripper frames are now sitting idle until inspiration hits me again.
