The Month of June “Adventures”

We are well into July and I’m now ready to talk about June. I purchased a pizza oven in June to continue the celebration of my 70th year. The pizza oven was great but the pizza I made turned out to be a disaster…kind of like the rest of the month. The dough I made didn’t rise but I persevered and tried to cook it anyway. When I tried to move the pizza around, it split and the toppings spilled over and burnt on the stone.

It took a while to get the burnt parts off this pizza stone.

Let’s go back to the beginning of June.

John had his knee operation on June 3rd and it seemed to go fine. New hardware installed and all was good.

He was chipper when he left the hospital that afternoon but on the way home he had to pee, really really badly. We stopped at a rest stop along the highway. Nothing came out. He tried again and again but nothing. We got home and he was in agony but thought it had to do with the epidural wearing off. By 2 in the morning he was in so much pain that we headed off to the emergency. They checked his bladder and found that indeed, he had LOTS of fluid in his bladder but for some reason it wasn’t coming out. A catheter was inserted and finally John felt some relief. A week later the catheter was taken out at the hospital (for a trial void) and John was able to dribble a tiny bit and everything seemed OK. By midnight things were NOT so good and a return visit to the emergency to find out that again, he had a full bladder but the fluid in there wasn’t coming out. Catheter time again. This time John wasn’t so keen on having it removed. His knee was healing as it should but this complication really played with his head. There is a new urologist at the Pembroke hospital but he is extremely busy and he only comes to Pembroke once a week. The knee surgeon was able to chat with the urologist and John eventually has an appointment for mid July. He had his catheter removed again on June 30th for another trial void and has been free of it hanging from his leg since then. Hip Hip Hurray. Knee is still swollen but he is doing his exercises regularly and icing his knee a few times a day. It is taking quite a while to heal, much longer than he had hoped, but he is staying positive as he hobbles about the house.

Me? Well in the midst of all this I started “spotting” in June. Women my age are not suppose to “spot”. The internet is a mighty fine tool to get information but can also be mighty scary. I am fortunate to have a new family doctor who is on top of things. I had an ultrasound last week (no results yet) and have a biopsy scheduled… on my 70th birthday!!!!! 🥳 I understand that a biopsy can be painful so I purchased a prescription vape for this procedure. Nothing like getting high on my birthday.

Instead of relaxing at the cottage on July 20th, plans have changed and my girlfriends are preparing a birthday celebration for me later that evening in Deep River. There will be wine and cake and laughter.

I have been busy trying to distract myself while I wait for results from the procedures. I purchased these plain dresses at Costco. They were pleading to be painted on.

I have taken over the dining room table with art supplies. I have purchased a pile of art books from our new local bookstore and have been painting each day.

Good bye June and hello July.

BTW - The next pizza I made in my pizza oven turned out perfectly. A sign of good things to come? I sure hope so.
