Survivor

John was glued to the TV last night. Glued for 3 FULL HOURS. John isn’t much of a TV watcher. He likes plane disaster shows and shows where a guy murders his wife but doesn’t get away with it in the end. He rarely watches a movie or sits for a prolonged amount of time in front of the TV. Last night was different. Last night was the 50th season of SURVIVOR. John has been watching Survivor for 25 years. John has missed 2 episodes in the entire 50 seasons (over 725 episodes). He missed the first episode. Our son Stuart has always been up on cultural phenomena and told us we needed to watch it. John also missed an episode that aired a week in October 2019 when his mom passed away.

Super fan…John Hefler

I remember the first season that aired May 31, 2000. It’s kinda like “where were you when”. I was working at the Youville Centre in Ottawa and after each episode the staff would get together and talk about the show. John was working in the Infant Program at the ELC at Algonquin College. He would play the theme music to the infants and they would all dance, holding their torches (not really…the torches part anyway 😜).

John’s favourite buffs. Both are authentic and he only wears them on special occasions. Fuji from Season 14 Fiji where Earl Cole was the winner and from Season 26 Fans Verse Favourites where John Cochrane won. John was gifted the buffs from a friend who worked post production on the show and she says it was the best job ever working on Survivor.

I gave it up years ago as I just couldn’t take the lying and backstabbing anymore. John never has given it up. He LOVES it. He has our youngest son Graeme hooked on it. No doubt they will be on the phone tonight discussing Wednesday’s episode, their thoughts, their predictions. They usually wait for a few episodes before they lay their money down on who they think will be at the finale . Graeme listens to podcasts for additional intel, John just uses the intel in his head!!! That’s why Graeme is generally a better predictor. 🤣
