May Birthday Gift
And it continues. For my May gift to myself, (for my upcoming 70th birthday…as if I haven’t mentioned it a hundred times before), I purchased a new e-bike. You may ask, why a new one? Don’t you have an electric bike already? The answer is yes, I do but I was looking for a pedal assist bike rather than one with a throttle. The one I had was great and would help with hills but it was a heavy brute and I was finding I was using the power more and more rather than pedal power. The new one just assists me as I pedal, and I HAVE to pedal. Want a bit of power to get up that slope? Use the ECO mode. Want a lot of power to power up that hill, use the POWER mode. It also has big wheels so I can pedal easily on the flats without any “assist” at all.
My old electric bike. A Pedal Easy which was developed right here in Deep River.
My new bike. A 2026 LIV Allure by Giant and the colour is Ocean Twilight. (I bought it just because my astrology sign is Cancer so I loved the name of the colour 😜…just kidding, or am I????)
Johnny and I at a picnic spot along the Trans Canada trails. I did over 35 kms without an issue. The trail from Deep River to Rolphton is amazingly beautiful. I had never been on it before.
My new bike also records the distance and time of the trips. It let’s me know how far I can go on each power level. (If I use the ECO mode I can get about 150 km on it. If I use the Power mode its about 50 km. There are 5 modes in all.) It also has a “find my” feature so if someone makes off with my bike, I can see where the bike is.
Cheers to another monthly birthday celebration to myself. This time the gift of is of fitness and exploration around Deep River, and possibly beyond.
